The Theatre Royal has a team of dedicated staff with many years' experience. We will ensure you receive the support needed to successfully deliver your production.

The Theatre Royal Nelson is a beautifully restored ‘A’ listed theatre with 333 quality, comfortable seats over two levels, all with unobstructed views.

The Theatre is multi purpose and capable of configuration for a variety of production styles, including traditional stage plays, music, dance, circus, cabaret and community events.

The first six rows in the stalls (A-G) can be removed allowing the auditorium to go from seated to flat floor.

The Theatre Royal is a sought after venue for many performing arts organisations in Te Tau Ihu, plus national and international producers.

Located in the centre of Nelson city, the Theatre is close to cafes, restaurants and hotels. We also operate a licenced bar.

Support for artists

The following services are provided to visiting companies:

Marketing support including space in our monthly e-newsletter.
Help arranging publicity including radio interviews.
Excellent advertising rates with the local media (print & radio).
Sound, lighting and technical support is available for $50 per hour.
Ticket sales - in person and telephone booking service operates weekdays, plus an online booking service.
Full front of house service.
