Nelson Underage in collaboration with smokefreerockquest are proud to present hometown hero’s, the Broods performing at Nelson’s Iconic Theatre Royal on June 21st.
Georgia Nott, from Broods says they are looking forward to their home town gig, which comes hot on the heels of the band supporting Ellie Goulding’s arena tour of Australia and New Zealand.
“We've been nagging our management to make a Nelson gig happen, and we're now so excited to finally get to return home to play for our family and friends,” she says. “It's made even more special to be invited by the Pete and Glenn at Smokefreerockquest to whom we owe so much."
Georgia and Caleb were members of the Garin College indie rock band, The Peasants, who won Smokefreerockquest in 2011. They formed Broods in early 2013 and began collaborating with Lorde’s music producer Joel Little.
They’ve since signed worldwide deals with major record labels in the UK and USA, and toured in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and had sell out shows in the US.
Broods self-titled debut EP charted at #1 on the iTunes album chart in New Zealand, as well as #2 in the National Album charts. Their debut single Bridges peaked at #5 on the New Zealand singles chart and had over a million plays on Spotify worldwide. Broods songs have over 1 million plays on Soundcloud.
Nelson Underage organiser Nathan Telford says the suggestion to bring Broods to Nelson came out of discussions with the Nelson City Youth Council. “When we were looking at which performers to use, Broods were a clear favourite,” he says.
